088 Boxer (Dolphins)
Package contents
Preparatory sketch for the Boxer from the Episode 3 Dolphins scene.

Layout drawing in Rotring ink on tracing paper (16.5 x 16.5 cm) fixed with masking tape onto key paper (30.5 x 25.3 cm) with some pencil extensions to the ink drawing.

The key paper was obviously originally used as a temporary folder containing animation cels HW1-5 - whatever they were. Hence the fold down the middle of the paper. Must have been re-used in haste to provide registration positioning for this layout drawing.

Drawings on tracing paper or animation key paper were taped in position like this for the camera setup and traced with Rotring pen in black ink onto clear cel. This was then reversed by contacting onto photolith film in the darkroom for camera artwork to be back-lit under the animation rostrum camera.

All these various pieces of artwork were originally taped to strips of 35mm film punched with peg registration holes. The aeons of time since they were created means that in most cases the sellotape or masking tape used to fix items in place for registration has long since dried up, become brittle, and separated.
